Fun Fact
The original Royal Inland Hospital was built in 1885 at Lorne St and Third Ave. The original two story wooden building, with verandas circling both floors, had fewer than twelve beds and only
one physican. The first major renovation took place in 1891 when it became a fifteen bed, five ward facility. In 1896 the association was incorporated and a women's ward was built adjacent to the main building.
The bed size of the Hospital was doubled when the Trafalgar Wing was added in 1905. In 1910, a campaign was initiated to build a new Hospital with a larger capacity, in an area where it could expand. The 128 bed
hospital was opened on Columbia Street in September 1912.
